For many years the "standard" table height for secondary schools has been 700 mm. The usual seat height for chairs to match these tables has been 430 or 445 mm.
However, it has been acknowledged that young people have been getting bigger and taller during the past few decades and as a result there are now new heights for tables and chairs, ie. 760 mm for tables and 460 mm for chairs. For those of you who have been brought up on imperial measurements, this means an extra 2.4 inches on table height and 1.2 inches on the seat height of chairs. Please note there is NO legislation requiring schools / colleges to use any particular size. However you now have more choice and may wish to specify your chairs and tables in the new sizes which are likely to be better suited to students in upper schools and colleges. Unless you specify otherwise we will continue to supply at the 700 mm and 430 mm heights.
Table design and manufacture
Table Specification & Finishes
Unless stated otherwise all our tables and desks are made from 18 mm MDF (medium density fibreboard) core with a hard wearing laminate worksurface. The laminate has good resistance to graffiti which can usually be wiped off with a damp cloth and some detergent. However, it is not meant to resist a sustained attack from "stanley" knives or scissors or chisels. ! Edges are rounded to make a "bullnose" finish which is then lacquered. We recommend this finish although we can supply tables with a PVC edge if required and in a variety of colours. PVC edge finish available at an extra cost of £ 2.00 for both 600/600 and 1200/600 mm tables.
Frame colour: black, grey, brown, silver (min 40 tables or desks for silver finish)
Laminate work surface: beech, grey, maple, granite, red, blue, yellow, green, grey speckle
Polyurethane edge: The most durable edge available. A very attractive finish to your tables.
PVC edge Choose from: black, beech, grey, red, blue, green, brown, oak (see below)
WARNING !
Perhaps you have seen adverts for cheaper priced tables and desks. Prices can be reduced because manufacturers can cut costs by using only 15 mm thick worktops and / or chipboard (described as MFC which means "melamine faced chipboard"). As with most things in life you get what you pay for. When you consider the rough handling that tables and desks often receive we think it's better to pay a bit extra in the first place to be sure of getting a product which will "stay the course."
